A man living in a Glen Burnie shelter who police say admitted to fatally stabbing another man outside a fast-food restaurant over the weekend was ordered jailed in lieu of $1.5 million bail Monday.
Anne Arundel County District Judge Shaem C.P. Spencer continued the bail for 39-year-old Roland Michael Long during a brief hearing in Annapolis. Long is charged with second-degree murder in the death of James Anthony Liberto, 43, of Glen Burnie.
Police said they were called about 6:40 p.m. Saturday to the parking lot of the Cromwell Field Shopping Center in Glen Burnie for a fight. According to charging documents, Liberto yelled at Long, who was in a McDonald's, to come outside, where the two fought and Liberto was stabbed in the back. Long told police that "he had just stabbed Jimmy," the documents say.
Assistant State's Attorney Andrew Burnette asked the judge for either no bail or a very high bail, saying that Long is a danger to others, with a history of convictions and drug, alcohol and mental health problems. Burnette also said he suspected Long would be a flight risk.
Long has been convicted twice for theft and also has a drug conviction. Additionally, he pleaded guilty in 2008 to stealing cash from a liquor store in Glen Burnie where he worked and was placed on probation, and he pleaded guilty to hitting a friend in the head with a beer bottle the same year, according to court records.
Liberto, who had several drug-related arrests, has a pending drug case in Prince George's County District Court, according to court records.
