A man was shot three times on the parking lot of an Odenton bar and two patrons were struck by stray bullets just outside the establishment early Saturday, Anne Arundel County police said.
Officers found Antwone James Hooper with bullet wounds to his head, back and abdomen, lying on a parking lot behind My Place Bar & Lounge in the 1600 block of Annapolis Road shortly before 2 a.m., police said.
Two other men were hit by stray bullets as they entered the bar, located in a strip of clubs and restaurants nicknamed "Boomtown," across from the Fort Meade military base, police said.
Police say they found a suspect, James Edward Jones, 23, of the 3100 block of Bero Road in Halethorpe, crouched behind a fence of a nearby KFC restaurant. Jones was charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder along with other charges and held at the Anne Arundel Detention Center.
According to police, surveillance videos showed the suspect brandishing a revolver in the doorway of the bar and chasing Hooper around the parking lot before firing.
Hooper was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center and was in stable condition Saturday morning, police said. The other two victims had injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
This is not the first shooting associated with My Place Bar & Lounge. In 2006, a former officer in the Federal Protective Service was fatally shot on the parking lot as he sat in his SUV.
Several violent attacks have occurred in Boomtown in recent years. Almost exactly two years ago, two men were killed and two were seriously injured in a shooting on the parking lot of Traffic Bar & Lounge, a few doors away from My Place.
And in 1996, the owner of a liquor store was fatally shot in a robbery that left his wife and two customers injured.
