Anne Arundel Co. police investigating three robberies

Anne Arundel County police were investigating three robberies over the past three days, including one in an area beset by several recent muggings and holdups.

Just before 3 a.m. Monday, officers were called to a 7-Eleven in the 1600 block of W. Furnace Branch Road in Glen Burnie, where the store clerk reported that a man carrying a large metal chain demanded money from the register and fled north in a pickup truck on Route 648. Police described the suspect as thin, white and in his early 20s, with brown hair, a beard and mustache, and a neck tattoo. He was wearing a blue, hooded sweatshirt, a yellow poncho and other rain gear and blue jeans.

About 7:45 a.m. Sunday, a 58-year-old woman loading groceries into her car in the parking lot of the Shoppers Food Warehouse in the 3400 block of Laurel Fort Meade Road was approached from behind by a man who grabbed her purse and fled, police said. The woman was not injured.

That block of Laurel Fort Meade Road, home to two shopping centers, has been the scene of several robberies in the past month, according to police. On the weekend of Oct. 2-3, a suspect on a bicycle took a woman's purse, and an armed robber stole cash from the Pier One Imports at the Maryland City Plaza Shopping Center.

Just before 2 a.m. Saturday, police were called to the 100 block of Plymouth Lane, where a cab driver reported that two customers robbed him at gunpoint after he picked them up from the 7700 block of Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard in Glen Burnie.
