Police seek suspects in two Laurel robberies

Anne Arundel County police are investigating two Laurel robberies that occurred within blocks of each other Friday and Saturday.

Friday morning, officers were dispatched to Russett Green East and Laurel Fort Meade Road, near the Corridor Marketplace Shopping Center and the Maryland City Plaza Shopping Center. The victim, a 52-year-old woman, told police that a man on a bicycle came up from behind and pulled her purse off her right shoulder and then fled the area on bicycle. She was not hurt.

After searching the area, police found the possible bicycle used in the incident as well as the woman's purse. The suspect is described as being a black male around 18 or 19 years old, of medium height with bushy hair, wearing a tan, hooded windbreaker and blue jeans.

On Saturday night, officers responded to a reported robbery at the Pier One Imports in the 3400 block of Laurel Fort Meade Road, in the Maryland City Plaza Shopping Center. According to a female employee, a male customer entered the store, purchased some items, and left, only to return later with a black handgun and demand cash.

The employee was ordered onto the floor, whereupon the suspect took cash from the register and fled the store on foot.

Police searched the area but could not find the suspect, who was described as a black male with a thin build and medium complexion, around 20 years old, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, and wearing blue jeans, a blue long-sleeved shirt and blue baseball cap.
