Annapolis police investigate non-fatal shooting

Annapolis police arrested a 40-year-old man for the Saturday non-fatal shooting of a Millersville man in the Harbour House community.

Police charged Charles Edward Wallace Jr. of the 700 block of Newtowne Drive in Annapolis Saturday afternoon in the shooting of Steven S. Freeman, 34, in the 1100 block of Madison St.

At about 5:40 a.m., Freeman flagged down an officer at Bay Ridge and Tyler avenues and reported he had been shot, police said. The officer reported a large amount of blood inside the vehicle he was driving, officials say.

Freeman was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center for multiple gunshot wounds, police said. His injuries are not considered life-threatening, police said.

Wallace, who is now charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and handgun violations, served a four-year sentence from 2006 second-degree assault and drug-related charges, according to electronic court records. He faced numerous similar charges, dating back to 1997.
