YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel

Annapolis Maritime Museum
The Annapolis Maritime Museum needs a coordinator to recruit and manage volunteers who will teach visitors about Annapolis' maritime heritage and how to take care of the bay. This is a one-year commitment as a member of AmeriCorps and begins Sept. 15. It includes extensive training, a modest living allowance, and a post-service education award. This no-kill facility, which operates two small shelters in the Annapolis and Arnold areas, seeks volunteers to provide foster homes. Electronics Museum

Volunteers 18 and older are needed at seven Head Start sites throughout in the county to serve as classroom assistants, informal mentors for students and families, and as story time readers. Friendly visitor
Volunteers are needed for the Friendly Visitor Program coordinated by the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities. A 90-minute training program takes place at the end of the month. The department matches a homebound person age 55 or older or an adult with disabilities with a volunteer visitor who comes to the person's home. Help at detention center

Wildlife sanctuary
The Davidsonville Wildlife Sanctuary treats and cares for injured and orphaned animals and, if possible, releases them back into the wild. Lab Rescue
Volunteers are needed at the Lab Rescue of the Labrador Retriever Club of the Potomac to assist with Adopt-a-Lab Day on weekends, to transport dogs to and from vets and shelters, evaluate dogs before accepting them into the system, conduct home visits in connection with adoptions, and provide foster homes.
