Senior services

The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities has published its 2010-2011 edition of "Services for Seniors, Adults with Disabilities, and Caregivers." The free directory lists businesses and individuals who provide services to older adults, caregivers and families. Copies can be obtained at department headquarters at the Heritage Office Complex, 2666 Riva Road, Annapolis, and at the seven senior activity centers, libraries and Giant Food stores. Single seniors

The Single Seniors Group at Pascal Senior Activity Center will hold its monthly meeting at 10 a.m. Monday, July 12, at the center, 125 Dorsey Road in Glen Burnie. The group holds various activities, including dances, picnics, tours and trips. Information: 410-222-6680 or go to

Farmers' market coupons

Seniors 60 and older enrolled in a qualifying means-tested program are eligible for coupons worth $30 per year in fresh fruit and vegetables at farmers' markets throughout the state. The coupons, which come in $3 increments, can be used at stands with the Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Pilot Program poster. Certain foods are not eligible. Senior center trips

Anne Arundel County senior activity centers have announced their trip schedules and are accepting deposits. Trips include day trips, cruises and extended bus trips. Memoir writing

The course, which teaches how to write an autobiography, will be held 2:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Tuesdays at the Arnold Senior Activity Center, 44 Church Road. There will also be an opportunity to learn listening and interviewing skills, writing tips and proofreading. Information and registration: 410-222-1922.

Volunteer grandparents sought

The Foster Grandparents Program of the county Department of Aging and Disabilities is seeking volunteer grandparents to help mentor children with special needs. Volunteers serve 15 to 40 hours a week, providing mentoring, tutoring, advice and attention, teaching life skills to children in special education classes, staffing a homeless shelter, a family support center and other agencies. Activities may include reading stories, listening, helping children feed themselves, setting the table, working with puzzles and helping children learn colors, numbers and the alphabet. Volunteers must be income-eligible and at least 60 years old. Benefits include a tax-free stipend, paid training, vacation, sick leave, free transportation, lunch and a physical exam.
