Navy Boot Camps
The Armel-Leftwich Visitor Center of the U.S. Naval Academy will sponsor two "Navy Way" boot camps this summer, on Saturday, July 17, and Aug. 7. Basic Boot Camp is a morning program and Advanced Boot Camp is an afternoon program. Basic Boot Camp is for recruits ages 6-12 and runs from 10 a.m. to noon. Recruits are issued a sailor's cap, learn Navy terms, march, chant, follow orders and eat in a simulated mess hall. Cost is $35 and includes a "Dixie cup" cap, camp, lunch (two slices of pizza and a soda), and a certificate of participation at graduation. Advanced Boot Camp is for graduates of Basic Boot Camp who are ages 9-12, and runs from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Participants take seamanship training (tying knots), learn how to use semaphore flags and march in precision drill. Cost is $35 (with cap), or $40 (if purchasing new cap), and includes all training materials.
