AACC honors Distinguished Service Award winners

Three students, a faculty member and a staff member at Anne Arundel Community College were honored recently with the school's Distinguished Service Award. The award was given to those who had made a significant contribution to the college or the community.

Students Eileen Catte, Kristin Hart and Egypt Kosloski received scholarships for next semester. Chemistry lab manager Debbie Reeder and psychology professor Rachelle Tannenbaum were also honored.

Catte received the award for her work establishing rain gardens on the campus. The gardens soak up chemicals from runoff before it can enter rivers and the bay.

Hart was recognized for her work with the American Society of Interior Designers and for her work on the college's Designer House Calls fundraiser.

Kosloski was honored for her work with peers. As president of the Student Association executive board, she helped organize a fundraiser that generated more than $600 in scholarships for students.

Reeder, who has worked at the college for 35 years, was given an award for her dedication to the chemistry department.

"It is a terrific place to work; everyone is very collegial, and we do put students first. That's why we're all there, and that's very obvious in the way that all the faculty and staff think," Reeder said.

Tannenbaum was recognized for her contributions to the psychology department. Most recently, she created a program to train and mentor new faculty on teaching courses online.

"One of the things I really like about this college is that we do go through and honor people and take time to recognize accomplishments. It just means a whole lot to me to know that somebody said 'Hey, what you've done, we're thanking you for it,' " Tannenbaum said.
