Three 17-year-olds charged with vandalizing Arundel High

Anne Arundel County police charged three new graduates of Arundel High School with spray painting racially offensive graffiti on the outside of the school. The incident occurred early Tuesday, the last day of classes for underclassmen.

Police charged three 17-year-old boys as juveniles. Two are from Odenton and one is from Gambrills, police said. They were charged Wednesday with damage to property involving racial animosity, trespassing and malicious property destruction over $500, according to police.

All three youths graduated May 28 from the Gambrills high school, said Bob Mosier, school system spokesman.

The damage was estimated Thursday at about $1,000, Mosier said.

"We fully intend to seek restitution from whoever is found to be responsible," he said.

Police responded to an alarm at the school about 3:45 a.m. Tuesday and found graffiti, described by school officials as generally offensive, sprayed on the front steps, entrance and sidewalk, as well as by a side entrance, on benches and on a flagpole. Police said toilet paper rolls had been thrown through trees. Mosier said there appears to have been no damage inside. School officials worked with police, he said.
