Man sentenced to 15 years for Glen Burnie armed robberies

A Randallstown man was sentenced Thursday to serve 15 years for three hold-ups with a sawed-off shotgun in Glen Burnie, one of which he told a friend he would commit so he'd have cash to go to the Kings Dominion amusement park.

However, Daniel Hunter Howard, 23, has similar cases pending in Baltimore, Howard and Prince George's counties -- multiple-count indictments stemming from armed robberies last summer, said Anne Arundel County Assistant State's Attorney Anne Colt Leitess. She said he told police he felt pressure because his girlfriend was pregnant and he needed money.

Howard entered pleas acknowledging the state had evidence to convict him but did not admit guilt in the three Anne Arundel County robberies, which Leitess said were committed on weekdays while he was serving weekends in jail for a minor offense. A fourth case, for a restaurant robbery, was dropped. Howard was sentenced to 40 years in prison, with 25 years suspended.

Howard's lawyer, Assistant Public Defender Stanley Robbins, told Judge William C. Mulford II that his client has had a drug problem beginning at the age of 10 and was participating in a number of programs at the Baltimore County jail, where he has been awaiting trial.
