Police arrested a second man early Saturday in the death of a Locust Point man whose body was found in a shallow grave in Patapsco Valley State Park last month.
Police arrested Christopher S. Calvert, 31, of the 1300 block of Richardson St., about 2 a.m. They had received a tip about an hour earlier that Calvert was in the 1600 block of Cypress St., which is where officers from the city and the Maryland State Police Apprehension Team arrested him.
On Friday, police charged Calvert and Kevin M. Skipper, 30, of the 500 block of E. Fort Ave., in the death of 31-year-old Matthew C. Martin. Skipper was arrested Friday, but Calvert was initially at large.
Martin was last seen April 9 and was reported missing by his mother, JoAnn Martin, on April 11.
His body was found by two fisherman May 15 in the state park. They noticed an elbow sticking up from the shallow grave near the 1200 block of River Road in Linthicum Heights and called police.
Police said Calvert, Skipper and Martin were acquaintances who met at Calvert's basement apartment the night Martin went missing. The two men killed Martin in Calvert's apartment and buried him in the park, police said.
A motive remains unclear, police said.
The two men are charged with first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, and two counts of use of a deadly weapon. Both men had previous drug-related charges, according to electronic court records.
