Annapolis police were investigating the shooting of a man early Saturday that occurred while officers were breaking up a fight involving a large group of people inside an American Legion hall.
Police were called to the hall in the 700 block of Newtowne Drive about 1:27 a.m., according to police spokesman Ray Weaver.
"While they were on the scene, they heard shots fired," he said.
The victim, who was shot in the chest, was in serious condition Monday at Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Witness reports varied, but some said they heard as many as five shots fired, Weaver said.
