Runaway fire truck hits tree during demonstration for kids

A fire truck rolled 60 feet and crashed into a tree during a demonstration Saturday in Pasadena, injuring one firefighter who attempted to stop the truck, an Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman said.

The Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Company was showing eight children firefighting equipment when the truck's emergency brake released, causing the truck to roll, said Battalion Chief Steve Thompson, spokesman with Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

The children were inside the fire truck at the time but were uninjured.

The injured firefighter was taken to Baltimore Washington Medical Center, Thompson said. The incident happened around 1:16 p.m. in the 400 block of Edgewater Road.
