Woman charged after car strikes officer's vehicle

A Glen Burnie woman was charged Friday with driving under the influence after the car she was driving rear-ended an Anne Arundel County police officer's vehicle, police said.

Police said Michele Saffran, 44, was at the wheel of a Chevrolet Impala when it struck the officer's vehicle--which was marked and had its emergency lights on -- as it blocked traffic on Route 648 at Queen Anne Road in Glen Burnie. The officer, Joseph Dubiel, was sitting in his car blocking traffic while Baltimore Gas and Electric crews worked on electric wires.

The officer, a 14-year veteran of the police force, was taken by paramedics to Baltimore Washington Medical Center where he was treated and released, police said.
