Man accused of stealing from Starbucks tip jar

Annapolis police have charged a West River man with stealing cash from the tip jar at a downtown coffee shop.

An employee at the Starbucks Cafe by City Dock told police that a man pulled money from the jar around 2 p.m. Tuesday and ran toward Prince George Street, police said. People nearby told police they saw a man in a black jacket running through the neighborhood and jumping fences.

Earlier Tuesday, police said, a man whose car was towed from a single-car accident told officers he would walk to the downtown Starbucks. Police showed a photo of the man to Starbucks workers, who said it appeared be the tip thief.

Then, a resident of East Street called police to say he found a driver's license that he suspected belonged to a man who had jumped a fence and run through his yard, according to police. While officers were questioning the resident, he pointed a person walking down the street and said "That's him. He's right there," police said.

Officers arrested John Kevin Kilroy, 46, of the 1100 block of Cherry Point Road in West River, and charged him with theft under $100.
