Anne Arundel County police have charged two men in connection with an officer who was struck by a sport utility vehicle after he fired at the oncoming SUV.

Police arrested Delartron Mavcon Munford, 24, of the 300 block of Mountain Ridge Court in Glen Burnie as he ran from the area in Odenton, according to Lt. James Fredericks. Munford was charged with two counts of second-degree assault and resisting arrest, Fredericks said.

Police later arrested Juan Shedrick Nicholas II, 27, of the first block of Estero Place in Middle River and charged him with felony assault on a police officer, second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault, Fredericks said.

Neither man was hit when the officer fired, Fredericks said.

Police went to the 2000 block of Tea Island Court in Odenton about 4 a.m. after receiving a report that two men were going through cars. An officer fired at an SUV when it drove toward him. When the SUV reached a dead end, two men ran from it, Fredericks said.

In the SUV, Fredericks said, police found a 9 mm handgun that had been reported stolen and several other stolen items. At least three vehicles on Tea Island Court had been broken into, and charges are pending, Fredericks said.

The officer struck by the sport utility vehicle was treated at the Baltimore Washington Medical Center and released.
