Glen Burnie man sentenced to 11 years in sex trafficking case

A federal judge on Friday sentenced a Glen Burnie man to 11 years in prison for having sex with a minor and forcing her into prostitution.

According to details of a plea agreement, Thomas Sean Tinsley, 29, met a 15-year-old girl near the Gallery Mall in Baltimore in May 2013, and invited her to live with him at a motel on Caton Avenue. Prosecutors said that after the girl moved in, Tinsley began having sex with her and encouraged her to prostitute herself to pay for the motel room and earn additional money.

Prosecutors said Tinsley often knew about the teen's meetings with clients, and sometimes negotiated directly with clients.

A confidential informant notified police when Tinsley offered to arrange for the victim to perform sex acts with the informant for $100. Police went to Tinsley's motel room, where they found the victim. They also found condoms, cell phones and prescription medication, and Tinsley's sex offender registry paperwork from a 2007 conviction.

Tinsley — who officials said had previously been convicted of having sex with another minor in another case and was already registered as a sex offender — was charged with sex trafficking of a minor.

In addition to his sentence, he will be subject to 35 years of supervision after his release.
