An arrest was made in connection with a car heist in Hanover last month, where an Anne Arundel County police officer shot at a suspect.
Andre Scott Nureni, 24, of the 8400 block of Berwick Road in Upper Marlboro, was arrested Thursday on burglary, auto theft, rogue and vagabond and other related charges, Anne Arundel County Police said.
On March 12 at around 12:37 a.m., officers discovered that the Baltimore Washington Auto Outlet in the 2700 block of Annapolis Road had been burglarized, police said. The burglars were still at the scene when police arrived, officials said, and one of the suspects got inside a red 2005 Chevrolet Corvette parked on Ballentine Way, adjacent to the dealership, and drove toward an officer who was outside his patrol vehicle.
Another officer, a three-year veteran of the force assigned to the Patrol Services Bureau, fired his service weapon at the vehicle, fearing for the safety of the first officer, police said. It's not known if the suspect was struck.
The Corvette then fled south on I-295. A second vehicle, a silver 2007 Mercedes Benz CL 550, was also stolen.
The officer who shot at the suspect was placed on routine administrative leave, pending the outcome of an investigation. Police did not identify the officer.
Police said the assailants used keys stolen from the dealership to break into the vehicles.
The investigation into the heist continues, as police continue to look for the other suspects involved.
