Man sentenced to 10 years in rape at Fort Meade residence

A Fort Meade man has been sentenced by a U.S. District Court judge in Baltimore to 10 years in prison for the rape of a minor during a party at Ft. Meade.

Daheem Bryant-Royal, 23, was also sentenced Wednesday to five years of supervised probation, and must register as a sex offender once he gets out of prison, according to prosecutors in the office of U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein.

The rape occurred at a September 2011 party at a residence on the base, which placed the incident under federal jurisdiction.

Bryant-Royal was convicted of the crime in December. Prosecutors said the victim had been staying at a residence and became intoxicated at a party, and was assaulted by Bryant-Royal. The victim reported the rape, and DNA evidence was determined to match Bryant-Royal, prosecutors said.
