Officers from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department marine unit responded to the distress call, where they interviewed seven people aboard the 20-foot vessel, according to Fire Department Division Chief Keith Swindle.

After searching the river fruitlessly for more than two hours, the search was temporarily halted at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Swindle said. As of 7 a.m. Friday, crews were on the scene preparing to resume the search.
