A Pasadena man charged with 134 counts of animal cruelty was placed on one year of probation last week after he said he tried to keep the animals at his home in an effort to rescue them.
Shane Christopher Taylor was given probation before judgment by Anne Arundel County Circuit Court Judge Paul A. Hackner on five counts, which will allow Taylor, 21, to seek to have his record expunged if he meets all of the judge's conditions.
Those conditions include not having more than one animal at a time and continuing treatment for mental health issues, said prosecutor Kimberly DiPietro.
Authorities went to his home last year, removing more than 40 animals — pets as well as wildlife — that they found, most lacking food and water, according to charging documents. The statement of charges described chickens living in a basement, a kinkajou in a cage in a closet, and a pig barricaded in a corner of a shed. All but a few described as pets were signed over to animal control officials, DiPietro said.
