A man drowned Sunday in the water near Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis, according to Maryland Natural Resources Police.
Citizens pulled a man floating in the water near the Sandy Point Shoal Lighthouse into their boat Saturday and took him back to a marina, where he was pronounced dead. On Tuesday, police identified the man as William Enrique Villatoro, 43, of Hyattsville.
Villatoro’s family had launched their boat near the state park, police said, and they docked the boat to go fishing as the vessel ”experienced issues.”
Villatoro jumped into the bay to cool off and got swept away in the current, police said. His family waved for help, and people in another boat found him floating in the water, pulled him out and brought him to a marina, where police met them. Maryland Natural Resources Police arrived around 12:30 p.m. at the marina and performed CPR on Villatoro but were unable to resuscitate him.
Maryland Natural Resources Police are investigating the death.
