Villatoro’s family had launched their boat near the state park, police said, and they docked the boat to go fishing as the vessel ”experienced issues.”

Villatoro jumped into the bay to cool off and got swept away in the current, police said. His family waved for help, and people in another boat found him floating in the water, pulled him out and brought him to a marina, where police met them. Maryland Natural Resources Police arrived around 12:30 p.m. at the marina and performed CPR on Villatoro but were unable to resuscitate him.
