Anne Arundel County Police arrested a woman who they believe robbed two banks and tried to rob a third in recent weeks — all branches of the Bank of Glen Burnie.
The branch in the 100 block of Crain Highway in Glen Burnie was hit Sept. 13 and Sept. 28, both times by a black woman in her 40s with dreadlocks who showed a note and demanded cash, according to charging documents.
Both times she got away with money, police said. At about noon Saturday, a woman with the same description walked into the Bank of Glen Burnie in the 700 block of Stevenson Road in Severn – right past a wanted poster that described the earlier crimes — and tried to rob that branch, according to charging documents.
The teller, however, refused to hand over cash, and a bank employee followed her out to the parking lot, where she was seen getting into a black Hyundai. Bank staff wrote down the license plate and notified police.
Police said Saturday shortly after 4 p.m., Cpl. John Hall spotted the car in the 200 block of Woodhill Drive, and also recovered evidence including a black bandanna containing a stack of $10 bills stained with a red dye and a note in the black Hyundai that read "EMPTY THE DRAWER," according to charging documents.
Jamese Christine Queen, 47, of the 300 block of Mountain Ridge Court in Glen Burnie, was charged with two counts of robbery, two counts of theft of more than $1,000 and attempted robbery, police said. She was being held Monday at the Jennifer Road Detention Center in Annapolis.
Michael Livingston, president of the Bank of Glen Burnie, said he and his staff are relieved there was an arrest in the robberies. He said employees were apprehensive, and customers frequently called about the incidents.
Livingston said the bank has already taken additional security measures, but declined to offer details. He said a meeting with police is planned to discuss further security efforts.
