A teen who police say was driving unsupervised on a learner's permit when her sport utility vehicle collided with a car whose driver later died was on probation on a previous traffic citation, court records show.
After Sunday's two-car collision, Anne Arundel County police issued four traffic citations charging Elizabeth Ramirez, 19, of Millersville with running a red light, driving unsupervised on a learner's permit, and negligent and reckless driving.
Police said she was the driver of a Jeep Cherokee that turned left into an oncoming car on Route 3 near Davidsonville Road. The other driver, Javaid Firdaus, 63, of Glen Burnie, died at the hospital, police said.
District Court records show that Ramirez was stopped by Anne Arundel police in February in the Old Mill area and charged with driving on a learner's permit without supervision.
In April, Anne Arundel County District Judge Jonas Legum gave her three years' probation before judgment for driving without a required license, fined her and ordered a 60-day suspended sentence. Other charges were dropped.
Ramirez declined to comment Tuesday.
In June, she was charged after an incident in a parking lot near Anne Arundel Medical Center, according to court records.
Anne Arundel police spokesman Justin Mulcahy said a 53-year-old pedestrian told officers that the woman's vehicle suddenly reversed and nearly hit him. Court records indicate that Ramirez received probation before judgment and was fined for driving without a required license.
The charges in Sunday's crash were filed before Firdaus died, Mulcahy said.
