Report: Arundel councilman weighs run for Congress

Anne Arundel County Councilman Jamie Benoit, a Democrat from Crownsville, is considering a run for Congress, according to a report on a local blog.

Benoit, who is term-limited, would challenge Rep. Donna F. Edwards, a Democrat from Prince George's County, in District 4. Parts of Anne Arundel County, including Laurel, were added to the district this month as part of a controversial redistricting approved by Gov. Martin O'Malley.

Benoit told local blog Anne Arundel Politics (http://annearundelpolitics.blogspot.com): "I am not ruling out a run for Congress in District 4. I want to make sure Anne Arundel County has the representation we deserve in Congress. … I don't want us as some afterthought."

In a text message Sunday morning, Benoit declined to comment. "I'll have something to say in the next few days," he wrote.
