A man suspected in an armed robbery of an Odenton bank on Monday rammed a police officer with his car as he fled, drawing gunfire from officers before being arrested, Anne Arundel County police said.
The officer was taken to a hospital with "bumps and bruises consistent with being hit by a car," said Lt. T.J. Smith, an Anne Arundel County police spokesman. Two other officers had minor injuries, and the suspect was uninjured.
Police said the man, who was not identified because he has not yet been charged, stuck up a Navy Federal Credit Union just before 6 p.m. with what turned out to be a BB gun, then was pulled over on Rt. 32 near Burns Crossing Road. As one officer approached from in front of the car, the suspect sped up, hitting the officer and a police cruiser, and prompting other officers to fire several rounds into the hood and interior of the car, police said.
None of the bullets hit the suspect, who nevertheless stopped and was arrested without further resistance, police said. The BB gun and an undisclosed amount of money, which police believe he stole from the bank, were found in the car.
