Top aide to Arundel's Neuman departs

Anne Arundel County Executive Laura Neuman's chief of staff is gone after six months on the job.

David Cordle, who had sought the executive's job but lost to Neuman, is no longer one of her top aides. The terms of his parting were not clear.

"David Cordle no longer works for Anne Arundel County. We do not comment on personnel issues," said Linda West, a spokeswoman for Neuman. She said Neuman would not be available to comment.

Cordle was one of Neuman's first hires when she was the surprise pick of the County Council in February to replace John R. Leopold, who had resigned as county executive after being convicted of misconduct in office. Leopold is appealing his conviction.

Before taking the job with Neuman, Cordle was the chief investigator for the Anne Arundel County State's Attorney's Office.

The State's Attorney's Office had no comment on Friday, said spokeswoman Heather Stone.

A Republican and former Annapolis alderman, Cordle ran unsuccessfully for Annapolis mayor in 2009, losing to Mayor Josh Cohen, a Democrat. He headed Cohen's public safety transition team.

When Neuman hired Cordle, she praised him as "an able administrator and a tremendous asset."
