Linthicum light rail neighbors win new, brighter streetlights

New and enhanced streetlights have been installed near the Linthicum light rail station as part of an effort to boost safety and security at the station and the surrounding neighborhood.

Anne Arundel County Executive John Leopold will activate the lights at the station Thursday afternoon.

Two new poles and fixtures will be activated along Shipley Road and nine fixtures will be upgraded to sodium vapor bulbs. Residents of the neighborhood requested the lights and officials say they are among hundreds of installations and upgrades made in recent years in places where police believe lighting will improve safety.

Police also partnered with the Maryland Transit Administration to install additional security cameras and a security kiosk at the station.
