A Pasadena man has been charged in a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a homeless man last year, according to the Anne Arundel County State's Attorney's Office.
On Nov. 20, 2012, 52-year-old John Junior Stewart, who had no permanent address, was found lying on Mountain Road near Jumpers Hole Road with life-threatening injuries. He died at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.
Witnesses said Stewart, who was not in a crosswalk, was hit by a dark-colored van or SUV that continued driving eastbound on Mountain Road after the crash.
Acting on a tip about a week later, police found a 2009 Hyundai SUV in a driveway on Lea Road in Pasadena. Police seized the car and the driver, 45-year-old Donovan Scott Bailey, contacted police. He was interviewed and released.
After a review, the Anne Arundel County State's Attorney's Office charged Bailey with failure to return and remain at the scene of an accident involving a death, a charge that carries a potential five-year prison term, according to prosecutors.
Bailey is scheduled for an initial court appearance on Nov. 13. A court summons was issued Saturday and no attorney is listed in court records.
