Annapolis teen pleads guilty in toddler's death

An Annapolis teenager charged as an adult in the death of a 2-year-old girl last year pleaded guilty to second-degree murder Wednesday, according to a spokeswoman from the Anne Arundel County State's Attorney's office.

Timothy Darnell Height, 18, received a 30-year sentence with all but 15 years suspended, followed by five years probation in the death of Amoir Faith Turner, said Kristin Fleckenstein, the spokeswoman.

Officers found the toddler dead in her bed in the Bywater neighborhood of Annapolis shortly after 7 a.m. on June 5, 2010. Autopsy results show that she had suffered several injuries, including a fractured skull, a broken leg and possible sexual assault.

Height, of the 700 block of Newtowne Drive, had a relationship with the toddler's mother, Kiera D. Smith. Police considered Height a person of interest within two hours of meeting a distraught Smith at the door of her residence in the 1900 block of Copeland St.

As part of his plea, Height will also be prevented from contacting Smith or her children, including a child whom Height fathered.
