Volunteers are needed to raise puppies to become guide dogs and prepare them for formal training. The volunteers, who can be as young as 13 with parental supervision, take the puppies into their homes for 14 to 18 months and teach them manners and social skills. In addition to working and playing daily with their dogs, the volunteers attend classes and puppy evaluations. Puppy classes are at 7 p.m. the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at St. Matthew's Church in Bowie.
