Memorial celebration The Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley Foundation commemorates the arrival of Kunta Kinte to America at noon on Sept. 29, 1767, at the Alex Haley Memorial located at the City Dock in Annapolis. Kunta Kinte's arrival in Annapolis and sale into slavery inspired his descendant, Alex Haley, to write the best selling book, "Roots." Also, the annual meeting of the Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley Foundation will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Sojourner Douglass College, 135 Stepneys Lane in Edgewater. Affair includes a reception with food, music, and drinks, an overview of foundation activities and annual accomplishments, and the distribution of awards to Sustaining Partners of the Foundation. Golf tournament Hospice of the Chesapeake invites area golfers to its annual fundraiser Oct. 6 at Queenstown Harbor Golf Course in Queenstown. Tournament contests include an opportunity to win a Mercedes-Benz with a hole-in-one, as well as a $2,000 cash prize raffle.

Registration is $250 per person and $900 for foursomes, which includes greens fees, cart, a continental breakfast, lunch, awards banquet, contests and prizes.
