Free parking

Two hours of free parking are available to Annapolis shoppers at all two-hour metered parking spots through Jan. 1. Spaces on Main Street, Francis Street, West Street, Maryland Avenue, Prince George Street, City Dock and Market Space, as well as the Donner lot adjacent to the former Fawcett's on Compromise Street, are available. Motorists are not allowed to leave their cars in one spot all day.


'A Christmas Carol'

The Dignity Players presents a dramatic reading of the classic Charles Dickens tale Thursday-Sunday, Dec. 5-8, at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 333 Dubois Road in Annapolis. Toys for Tots

The Anne Arundel Community College Department of Public Safety is a drop-off site for the Marine Corps Reserve's Toys for Tots collection program through Wednesday, Dec. 18. Take new, unwrapped toys from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. to the Central Services Building on the Arnold campus, 101 College Parkway. Toys may also be dropped off from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. at the security desks in the front lobbies of the college's facilities at Glen Burnie Town Center, 101 Crain Highway N., and Arundel Mills, 7009 Arundel Mills Circle in Hanover. Lights parade

The Eastport Yacht Club's Lights Parade will take place between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, in the Annapolis harbor and Spa Creek. The event features more than 30 boats of all shapes and sizes, power and sail, decorated with thousands of lights. Boats will circle the waterfront in two fleets, one in front of Eastport, the City Dock and the Naval Academy sea wall, and the other circling the length of Spa Creek inside the bridge. Information:

'Christmas Memories'

Children's party

A tree-trimming party will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at the Captain Avery Museum, 1418 E.W. Shady Side Road. Participants will be invited to tour the museum's 1860's waterman's home, create holiday crafts, trim the Christmas tree with naturally made ornaments, enjoy light refreshments, and visit with Santa. Admission is free.
