Pops concert

The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra performs its annual Lexus Pops in the Park concert at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, at Quiet Waters Park, 600 Quiet Waters Park Road in Annapolis. History presentation

Mavis Slawson, a textile historian and docent at the National Museum of Civil War Medicine in Frederick, will present a program on "Civil War Soldiers and their Quilts" at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at the Captain Avery Museum, 1418 E. Business breakfast

Lighthouse tours

Tours of the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse will be held at 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Sept. 14 and 28. Visitors can learn how lighthouse keepers lived, other lighthouses on the Chesapeake Bay and how many are still around. Tickets are $70 per person. Reservations are required. Plant sale

Adkins Arboretum will hold its annual Fall Native Plant Sale Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14-15, at 12610 Eveland Road in Ridgely. The sale benefits the arboretum's education programs and affords the public an opportunity to learn about the Chesapeake Bay region's native flora and its role in land stewardship practices. Theater production

Museum raffle

The Captain Salem Avery Museum's 25th annual fundraising raffle is under way. Top prize is $5,000, and tickets are $5 each. Child care grants

If you are a grandparent or relative, 55 or older, and the primary caregiver for a child 18 or younger, you may be eligible for a grant program offered by the National Family Caregiver Support Program. 'Operation Paperback'

This nonprofit organization collects used books nationwide and sends them to U.S. troops deployed overseas.
