'Critter Hour'

Visitors can join educators from the museum from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. the first Thursday of each month at the Annapolis Maritime Museum, 723 Second St. Be prepared to get wet and muddy as participants explore oyster habitats, catch crabs and wade in the water to catch Chesapeake Bay critters. Teen workshop

The Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre will hold its annual Musical Theatre Workshop for Teens Monday-Friday, Aug. 4-8, at 143 Compromise St. in Annapolis. The workshop explores drama and vocal skills, monologues, cold readings, audition techniques and various styles of dance. Through theater games, scene work, movement, improvisation and imagination, students gain a better understanding of the art of musical theater. The workshop culminates in a Broadway-style musical revue with two final performances for friends and family. To participate, students must have completed the seventh grade. Operation Paperback

This nonprofit organization collects used books nationwide and sends them to U.S. troops deployed overseas. Since 1999, more than 1 million books have been shipped to military personnel around the world. Organizing the effort in this area is Sandy Marron of Annapolis. Pool is open

The Dunn Municipal Pool at Truxtun Park is open daily for the summer season until Labor Day at 251 Pump House Road in Annapolis. Hours of operation are 11 a.m.-6 p.m. weekends and holidays; 12:30 p.m.-6 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; 12:30 p.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. In addition, there will be lap swimming from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mondays-Fridays. Daily pool rates and season pass information can be found at annapolis.gov/recreation. Commercially made bathing suits are required. Swim diapers, plus eco-suits, are required for children who are not toilet-trained. Beginner, intermediate and advanced swimming lessons are offered. Barbecue and ice cream

The Field Crops Research Twilight Tour, Barbecue and Ice Cream Social will be held from 4:30 p.m to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at the Central Maryland Research & Education Center, 2005 Largo Road in Upper Marlboro. University of Maryland Extension educators and specialists will showcase their field crop, vegetable and fruit research plots. A barbecue dinner will be served at 4:30 p.m. followed by homemade ice cream before the evening tour. Event is free, however, a reservations are required. Register your bike

The Annapolis Police Department is sponsoring a bicycle registration program. The owner's name, address and phone number and the bike's serial number, manufacturer and color are recorded in the department's database. Registration is available to any Annapolis resident. To schedule an appointment, contact Cpl. Craig Medley at 410-268-9000, ext. 7225, or cemedley@annapolis.gov. Owners must bring their bikes when registering. Neighborhood associations should contact Medley if they want to hold a community registration.
