Shredding event
The Anne Arundel County Police-Community Relations Council will host Shred-A-Rama VIII from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3. Residents may bring up to four boxes or bags of personal documents to any one of four locations and have them shredded in a commercial shredding truck to protect against identity theft. There is no cost, but donations will be accepted. The intent of the event is to protect residents from having information in personal records used by criminals to steal their identity. Locations are:
•Brooklyn Park Middle School, 200 Hammonds Lane.
•Ridgeway Elementary School, 1440 Evergreen Road.
•Anne Arundel County Police Headquarters, 8495 Veterans Highway, Millersville. (Rear parking lot).
•South River High School, 200 Central Ave. East, Edgewater.

Remembering moms
Women and girls of all ages grieving the death of their mothers or grandmothers are invited to a pre-Mother's Day tea at noon Sunday, May 4, at the Chesapeake Life Center, 90 Ritchie Highway in Pasadena. Trip to Winterthur
The Capt. Salem Avery Museum sponsors a trip to the Winterthur Museum, Gardens and Library in Wilmington, Del., on June 18. Deadline for reservations is Thursday, May 8. Bus will depart at 7:30 a.m. from the Kmart parking lot in Edgewater and returns at 5:30 p.m. Cost is $110, $95 for museum members. Fee includes transportation, admission, lunch, all taxes and gratuities. Rummage sale
The Department of Recreation and Parks holds its spring rummage sale from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 10, in the parking lot of the Pip Moyer Recreation Center, 273 Hilltop Lane in Annapolis. Mother's Day and Baysox
The Bowie Baysox will host a Mother's Day celebration and brunch Sunday, May 11, at Prince George's Stadium as they take on the New Britain Rock Cats. Game time is 2:05 p.m. Beginning at 12:30 p.m., fans can go onto the outfield to play catch. Brunch will be held in the Diamond View Restaurant beginning at 1 p.m. Tickets $39; $34 for ticket plan holders; $10 for children ages 3-5; free for children 2 and younger. Dignity Players
The Dignity Players closes its ninth season and ends its run at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis, 333 Dubois Road, with John Buchan's "The 39 Steps." Running May 2-17, the play tells the story of a man with a boring life who meets a woman who says she's a spy. Golf tournament
Archbishop Spalding High School will host the 22nd annual Lt. James Love Alumni Golf Tournament on June 5 at the Queenstown Harbor Golf Course. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. The event was established in memory of Lt. James H. Love, a 1977 graduate of Spalding, who was a Navy pilot killed during Operation Desert Shield. Proceeds from the tournament benefit Spalding students.
Tournament sponsorship opportunities are available for $2,500, contest sponsorships for $1,500, corporate foursomes for $750, foursomes for $600, individuals for $150, young alumni players (class of 2004 and after) for $125, and tee sign sponsorships for $150. Registration includes greens fees, a gift bag, and lunch and dinner catered by Adam's Ribs of Eastport. In addition, players will have the opportunity to participate a longest drive, closest to the pin and hole-in-one competitions.

Colonial Players

Seniors program
The office of Anne Colt Leitess, state's attorney for Anne Arundel County, is available to present "Communities Against Senior Exploitation: How to Prevent You or Your Loved Ones from Becoming a Victim of Crime." The presentation helps seniors protect themselves against fraud, identity theft and scams. Presentations are free of charge as part of the office's community outreach program. Register your bike
The Annapolis Police Department is sponsoring a bicycle registration program. The owner's name, address and phone number and the bike's serial number, manufacturer and color are recorded in the department's database. Registration is available to any Annapolis resident. Neighborhood associations should contact Medley if they want to hold a community registration.
