Kite festival

The Friends of Broadneck Park will host their second annual kite festival and community picnic from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 21, on the A Field at Broadneck Park on College Parkway in Annapolis. Budget session

A meeting on the Anne Arundel County budget hosted by the League of Women Voters will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at BayWoods of Annapolis, 7101 Bay Front Drive. Historic lecture


The Historic Annapolis St. Clair Wright Lecture Series features an illustrated talk by Harvard professor and Civil War scholar John Stauffer at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at First Presbyterian Church, 171 Duke of Gloucester St. in Annapolis. Bus trip to Ford's Theatre

The Ann Arrundell County Historical Society is sponsoring a bus trip to Ford's Theatre, with its new Center for Education and Leadership and the Congressional Cemetery Civil War Tour, on May 18. Lunch is planned at the District Chophouse & Brewery. Bus leaves at 8 a.m from the Benson-Hammond House, 7101 Aviation Blvd. in Linthicum, and returns at 4 p.m. Cost is $60, including lunch. 'Golfing for Charity'

The Rotary Club of Annapolis, Annapolis Lions Club, Annapolis Optimists Club and Annapolis Masonic Lodge No. 89 host this annual event on May 15 at the Eisenhower Golf Course in Crownsville. Registration is at 7:30 a.m., with announcements at 8:15 a.m. and a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The $100 per golfer fee includes golf, cart, continental breakfast, unlimited beverages and snacks on the course, an Italian lunch, and an additional free round of golf (four players, with three paying and one free).

The Captain Salem Avery Museum sponsors a cruise on the Choptank River on June 19 aboard a working replica of an authentic paddle-wheel riverboat, followed by a crab feast. The Rotary Club of Annapolis will hold its 68th annual crab feast from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 2 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis. Visitors guide

The 2013 Visitors Guide by the Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Conference and Visitors Bureau is now available. The 72-page, full-color guide contains information on things to do and see, events, dining, night life, accommodations, shopping and more. The Visitors Center is located at 26 West St. in Annapolis and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The guides will also be distributed from the bureau's satellite information booth at City Dock. The Anne Arundel Volunteer Center has released a Youth Resource Guide, with information about nonprofit and faith-based organizations in the county. A free copy is at volunteerannearundel.org. Register your bike

The Annapolis Police Department is sponsoring a bicycle registration program. The owner's name, address, phone number and the bike's serial number, manufacturer and color are recorded in the department's database. Registration is available to any Annapolis resident. Neighborhood associations should contact Medley if they want to hold a community registration.

Historical research
