Woman injured as car falls 75 feet into creek early Thanksgiving in Annapolis

Anne Arundel County police say a woman suffered critical injuries in an early morning crash Thursday in Annapolis when a car fell off the road and into a creek.

Police say officers and the fire department were called around 2:14 a.m. to Aris T Allen Boulevard (MD Route 665), near Solomons Island Road (MD Route 2) in Annapolis.

According to police, a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta occupied by three people was westbound on Route 665 when it left the roadway into the center median, struck the bridge structure at Church Creek, overturned and then fell about 75 feet into the creek below.

The crash ejected a woman passenger in the car, and she suffered life threatening injuries, police said. She was taken by state police helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma where she was in critical condition as of Thursday late morning. The driver and another passenger refused medical treatment, police said.

Police said speed and alcohol may have been factors in the crash The department's traffic safety division was handling the investigation.
