The Coast Guard rescued two men whose boat was sinking near Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse in Annapolis Sunday afternoon, officials said.

Crews from the Coast Guard, the Maryland Natural Resources Police and the State Police were called at about 3 p.m. and found the men in about 20 minutes.

The rescue crew gave the men lifejackets and helped them remove the water from their boat before it was towed to Liberty Marina. No one was injured.

"This case, like others we respond to, stresses the importance of having all of the required equipment before leaving the pier," Petty Officer 3rd Class Andrew Vardakis, the boarding officer on the rescue crew, said in a statement. "Although our crew had an excellent response time and was able to render assistance, had the two gentleman gone into the water without lifejackets, this particular case may have had a different outcome."
