Annapolis High School planned to name its athletic complex in honor of House of Delegates Speaker Michael E. Busch on Thursday night.
The school's fields have recently been renovated and the school decided to dedicate the complex in Busch's honor, said Maneka Monk, a school system spokeswoman.
"Speaker Busch has been in the Annapolis community for more than 20 years and has contributed to the high school greatly," Monk said.
Busch has represented the Annapolis area in the House of Delegates since 1987 and has been speaker since 2003. A graduate of St. Mary's High School in Annapolis and Temple University in Philadelphia, Busch was a teacher and coach at St. Mary's in the 1970s. Since 1979, he's worked for the Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks.
Busch joins his Senate counterpart, President Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr., in having a facility named in his honor. The Miller Senate Office Building at the State House complex was dedicated in 2001.
