For the third time in five years, the Veterans Classic basketball doubleheader at Alumni Hall is sold out. Tonight’s twin bill features Providence (1-0) vs. Wichita State (0-1) at 6 p.m., followed by Navy (0-1) vs. Maryland (1-0) at 8:30 pm.
Both games will be televised by CBS Sports Network and broadcast on 1430 AM and 99.9 FM WNAV.
Providence is coming off a 23-15 season that saw the Friars advance to the Big East Championship Game where they fell to Villanova, 76-66 in overtime. Providence lost to Texas A&M in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, 73-69.
Wichita State finished 25-8 last year, losing to Houston, 77-74, in the American Athletic Conference semifinals before dropping an 81-75 decision to Marshall in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Maryland ended its 2017-18 campaign with a 19-13 record, losing in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament to Wisconsin, 59-54.
This will mark the first meeting between Navy and Maryland in men’s basketball since the second round of the 1985 NCAA Tournament when David Robinson and the Navy Midshipmen squared off against Len Bias and the Maryland Terrapins. Maryland won that game, 64-59, in Dayton, Ohio.
