Fire tore through a Severna Park home Thursday, displacing a family of four and killing two of their pets before firefighters extinguished it.
The Anne Arundel County Fire Department responded at 7:29 p.m. to a family home on Surrey Road to find a kitchen fire burning. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze in less than 10 minutes, said fire department spokesman Russ Davies.
But the fire made the home uninhabitable and killed two family dogs.
The home belonged to Anna Torres-Radle and her family, owners of the local Fieldstone Animal Inn. Dogs Cora and Zoelle died in the fire, while other pets were safe, as they were outside at the time.
The Radle family was not home when the house caught fire.
“When they returned home black smoke filled the house and flames were coming from the kitchen windows,” according to a GoFundMe set up to benefit the family. The fundraising campaign has raised $11,235.
The official cause of the fire is still under investigation, Davies said. The fire caused $85,000 worth of damage.
