Anne Arundel County fire investigators are looking into what prompted a Pasadena playground to burst into flames Sunday afternoon.
Multiple people called 911 around 5:30 p.m. Sunday to say that the playground at the Freetown Village Boys and Girls Club was on fire, a fire department spokesman said.
Firefighters responded and found the playground in the 7800 block of Willing Court fully engulfed in flames, with a stack of black smoke billowing into the sky, said Capt. Russ Davies, department spokesman. The rubber mulch and plastic and metal structure were all burning.
Davies said firefighters were able to control the fire in 10 minutes, but not before the intense heat partially melted the siding on two nearby homes.
Investigators with the Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit descended on the scene and now are asking for the public for information about the fire, Davies said.
Anyone who may have witnessed anything unusual or that has footage of the fire is encouraged to call 410-222-TIPS or to fill out a tip form online. A tipster can remain anonymous via either method of submitting information.
