Firefighters falls through roof of Motel 6 pool house while extinguishing fire in Odenton

An Anne Arundel County firefighter was standing on the roof ventilating an old pool house that caught flames when the roof gave way and he fell 15 feet.

The firefighter was sent to University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center and later discharged with minor injuries.

Around 52 firefighters responded at 6 p.m. Monday to 1630 Annapolis Road in Odenton for a fire in a Motel 6 pool building. The pool is no longer used in the vacant building that now hosts storage. Firefighters put out the fire in the bordered storage room and smoke coming out from the building’s roof in 35 minutes.

Investigators from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department and Explosives Investigation Unit determined the fire’s cause as accidental. It caused $25,000 in damage to the one-story building.
