A driver traveling east on the westbound span of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge crashed head-on into another car Tuesday morning, causing a chain reaction that crashed five cars in total, Maryland Transportation Authority Police said.
The driver was in the eastbound lane that runs alongside two westbound lanes. Two people were flown by helicopter to the hospital and a third person transported by ambulance. All injuries were non-life-threatening, police said.
The center and right westbound lanes reopened after 2 p.m. after all lanes were closed following the crash.Traffic was backed up three miles in both directions at 2 p.m.
