The president of Bowie State University National Alumni Association is challenging 384 alumni to donate $100 each to the association’s endowment.
In the spirit of a $25 million donation from MacKenzie Scott, the president launched the “384 Alumni Challenge.“ It was named as that and the number chosen as that’s the number of recipients from Scott’s recent $4.2 billion worth of donations.
The alumni association’s purpose is to financially aid students and the school, as well as advance the cause of education.
On Dec. 25, Bowie State University National Alumni Association released an open letter of gratitude to MacKenzie Scott acknowledging the $25 million donation to Bowie State University, which almost triples the amount of the historically Black university’s endowment.
“We are extremely excited that Ms. Scott saw it worthy to invest in Maryland’s Oldest (Historically Black College and University),” said Darren Swain, president of the Bowie State University National Alumni Association, in a statement.
The donation will continue the quality education and directly impact countless generations to come, the association said.
