Baltimore to dodge a mess: Snow to fall south of here

Snowmageddon it's not. The snow that's expected in Baltimore later today is not likely to amount to much, according to a meteorologist at the National Weather Service.

"There's a chance of some snow later this afternoon and evening in Baltimore, but most of it will fall south of there," meteorologist Brandon Peloquin said Sunday morning, adding that there would be little if any accumulation in the area.

The storm is on track to pass eastward through the Carolinas and then out to sea off the Mid-Atlantic coast, he said.

Southern Maryland might see accumulation of about an inch, Peloquin added, saying that warm surface conditions will cause much of the early snow to melt.

Travelers heading south into Virginia are likely to see a greater accumulation.

But Baltimore seems on track to dodge a mess. "There may be some snowflakes, but for the most part we'll miss the brunt of the storm," Peloquin said.
