CHEVY CHASE — Police say a woman and her 4-year-old daughter were electrocuted in an accident that may have been caused by a portable sump pump.
Montgomery County police say the 29-year-old woman and the girl were found unresponsive on Saturday afternoon in a stairwell leading to the basement of a home in Chevy Chase. Both were taken to trauma centers, where they died.
Police say a portable sump pump was found in standing water near the victims. Police say it's possible that an electrical surge led to their deaths. There was flooding in the area at the time after heavy rains throughout the day.
Police say no foul play is suspected.
