Man dies in fall from cliff in Cumberland

CUMBERLAND — Police say a Cumberland man died in a 180-foot fall from a cliff known locally as Lover's Leap.

The Allegany County Sheriff's Office says 34-year-old Thaddeus Carolan died Thursday.

Investigators say it appears to have been an accidental fall.

They say a woman who was with him reported the incident shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday.

Two members of a rescue team rappelled down the cliff side to retrieve the body.

A Maryland State Police helicopter crew assisted in the recovery.
